Re – Use The Castle
Ripafratta, Pisa – Italy

The main idea was to highlight the beauty of the medieval ruins and integrate elements of active leisure into the design. As the basis for the architectural concept we’ve used a contrasting combination of simple forms, neutral materials and a free-floating pedestrian ramp. The volumes are located along the walls of the castle forming artificial terraces – a reference to the existing terraces on the territory. 3 cubical pavilions with simple facades complement the monumentality of the existing walls, highlight the historical cladding and also break the former impregnability of the fortress.
